Abstract
Several metres from the temporarily erected shrine of Shakyamuni Buddha, a variety show of music and dance was taking place on a sheltered stage. The occasion was the Buddha’s Birthday, an annual event in the forecourt of Darling Harbour. Swarmed by a mass of sightseers, worshippers, and parents pushing baby prams, it soon became obvious that filming was going to be a remarkable challenge. Hurriedly, I gathered my things and, scanning the area for a quick assessment of the situation, sought higher ground from a vantage point behind the crowd with the tripod erected high above my head. The performance continued.
