Abstract

Aim: Older people with intellectual disability want to pursue an active and meaningful retirement. We successfully tested a mentoring model. Members of mainstream community or volunteer groups were trained to mentor a person with intellectual disability to participate in the group. The aim of this study was to explore the mentoring experience and use these insights to further refi ne our mentoring model.
