Implementing interventions with acceptable fidelity

Research output: Chapter in Book / Conference PaperChapter

Abstract

![CDATA[Treatment fidelity refers to the degree to which an intervention is implemented in accordance with the developer’s prototype or gold standard implementation (Kaderavek & Justice, 2010; McCormack et al., 2017). The term is synonymous with intervention fidelity, implementation fidelity, treatment integrity, and procedural reliability (Breitenstein et al., 2010; Noell & Gansle, 2014). In research contexts, treatment fidelity is studied to determine if independent variables (interventions) are implemented by researchers exactly as planned (e.g., Topbaş & Ünal, 2010). Treatment fidelity underscores the internal validity of experiments and strengthens conclusions about the cause-effect relationship between interventions and outcomes. In clinical contexts, the goal is to implement interventions as closely to the gold standard or prototype as possible.]]
