Abstract

The 2014 Strategic Roadmap for Integrated Construction Supply Chains for Offsite Housing Systems Research Capability articulates the priority areas for national and collaborative research over the next six years. The priorities outlined in the 2014 Roadmap are an important element in strengthening Australia's built environment supply chain industrial systems. It is speculated that offsite manufacturing can be an important part of creating a built environment sector that is a 'smarter', more efficient and innovative sector. The construction industry is constantly facing several challenges and offsite manufacturing should not be considered the panacea. The sector is composed of a large number of diverse players both within academia and also within the industry and this has been one of the greatest challenges when attempting to initiate changes or even discuss the sector with 'one voice'. This challenge presents itself with offsite manufacturing.
