Abstract
The book is about the impact of information and communications technologies with respect to ecommerce users, the erosion of the right to privacy and information and data governance in Australia. It focuses on information privacy and not the broader issues of privacy generally. The book explores the concept of privacy and the protection of privacy as a human right. The key argument in this book book is that there is a personal right to privacy which extends to protect the information privacy of ecommerce users. In the process, the book examines the most influential international developments in the European Union and the OECD in relation to information privacy. The international experience provides a comparator to the Australian provisions and this is used to highlight the differing approach to the protection of privacy under the Australian legislative provisions and the accompanying Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
