Abstract

The role of young people in Goal 17 Partnerships for Sustainable Development is implied rather than explicit. To maximize the potential of partnerships for advancing the SDGs, young people’s participation is critical. However, this requires increasing the recognition and value of how young people who are currently progressing the SDGs, as well as prioritizing ways in which future innovations can meaningfully involve young people and their communities – even building on initiatives and advances they are currently contributing to, or have led. Strategies that hold particular promise include: enabling digital cooperation; addressing youth participation barriers; diversifying SDG monitoring; supporting youth leadership, creativity, and capacities; and prioritizing research and knowledge-sharing.
