    Abstract

The mobility of scientific and technological personnel is becoming a major mechanism for technology transfer, both between rich countries and, via research networks, between more and less developed regions and countries. The Asian region as a whole has become a new scientific and technological powerhouse. Some countries there are developing as destination for scientific careers. This paper reports data from a recent study concerning more than 10,000 scientists currently working in Asian and Pacific countries. The study explored the relationships between research training, the creation of international research networks, career experiences and respondents' patterns of mobility.
