Abstract

Intercultural nonverbal communication (INVC) intersects intercultural communication and nonverbal communication, characterised by how people from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds communicate with one another using various available resources other than words. INVC includes paralinguistics (speech rate, volume, pauses, intonation), kinesics (head movement, facial expression, posture, mirroring) and proxemics (space and distance), chronemics (use of time), haptics (touch), and cultural artefacts (symbols, attributes), etc. INVC is multi-dimensional and multidisciplinary.
