Abstract
An 'interview' may be defined as a 'meeting of persons face to face, esp. for the purpose of consultation; oral examination of candidate for employment etc.; meeting or conversation between journalist and person whose views are being sought for publication; similar meeting as part of radio or television programme' (Australian Concise Oxford Dictionary 1982, p. 526). Questions are framed and asked and if carefully constructed and understood they should elicit the information being sought by the interviewer. Although this approach appears straightforward, there are complexities inherent in interviewing that need to be identified, understood and managed in an optimal way.
