    Abstract

    The papers contained within this special section are the product of a small, intense workshop hosted by the Department of Archaeology, University of York, on 4 March 2006. Contributors to the workshop, which was entitled ‘Recovering Landscape as a Cultural Practice’, included Professor Lesley Head (keynote—archaeology/cultural geography), Dr John Barry (with Dr Kimberley Smith—both political philosophy), Professor Geoff Bailey (archaeology), Professor Peter Howard (heritage studies), Dr Jonathan Finch (archaeology), Dr Mark Riley (geography), Dr Kevin Walsh (archaeology) and Ian Simkins (with Dr Kevin Thwaites—both landscape architecture), who together offered a collection of thoughts and methodologies from a range of disciplinary perspectives.
