    Abstract

This edited collection represents a multidisciplinary consideration of police practice. Writings from academics from a range of social science disciplines, as well as reflections from practitioners, provide a comprehensive body ofliterature that links theory to practice for policing in contemporary society. The motivation for this work was to redress a lack of material within one referenced text that considers the theoretical underpinnings of the practical issues for a police officer in the modern day. Further motivation also comes from the developments in academic education for newly recruited police officers. Utilising the course outline of a number of police studies degree programs in Australia and the UK, as well as addressing the elements of learning required by the Australia New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) in Australia and the National Occupation Standards outlined by the UK Home Offtce on police education, this work is a key resource for all serving and aspiring police, and those who study their work.
