Abstract

This paper presents both a visual and theoretical analysis of artist-led urban initiatives in Hamburg, Germany and Sydney, Australia. We will explore urban-political contestations currently fracturing each city within a micro context. Drawing on examples from Hamburg-St. Pauli and Sydney City, this paper will tie together visual threads linking the issues surrounding inside and outside, visible and hidden, as well as public and private.
