Abstract

Maps of cities usually mark roads, landmarks and places of interest. The invisiblecity initiative works with communities to map those things that often lay hidden from view like experiences, feelings, memories, atmospheres and aspirations. The invisiblecity App invites people to create reports that explain how they feel about different parts of their city. These reports are automatically visualised on an interactive emotion map and become part of a searchable database. Collecting this information allows people to see, present and imagine the city in new ways. The App is currently available in English and Spanish and can be customised for different uses by contacting the research team. This project was initially conceived and developed by a team of researchers at Western Sydney University and was supported with funding from the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre (2011-2016).
