Abstract

Irritation Index or Irridex is a simple tourist–resident model that describes the negative sociocultural impacts of tourism (Doxey 1975). Its four stages (euphoria, apathy, irritation, and antagonism) explain the deteriorating responses of hosts to guests within tourism development. Ultimately, this leads to “irritation,” affecting the community in social, economic, and environmental terms (Apollo et al. 2020).
