Abstract
The view that good governance plays an important role in achieving sustainable economic growth and other Millennium Development Goals seems to reflect the views of influential sections of the donor community. The donor community, especially the World Bank and some OECD member governments, has been telling Africans to ensure 'good governance' since the 1980s. The agenda of good governance refers, broadly speaking, to institutional arrangements that have supposedly proven their worth in OECD countries. The purpose here is to highlight some problems of the influential hegemonic view which the African Development Bank imparts, and is based on the recently published volume: Is Good Governance Good for Development?
