Abstract
This article argues that there is a connection between young people's consumption of T-shirts, both bought and hand-made (also called Do-it-Yourself [DiY], and the formation of neo-tribal identities at Australian indie music festivals particularly at the Sydney Big Day Out, Homebake, and Splendour in the Grass. For the purposes of this article, the term indie is used as a way of describing guitar-based music that is considered by musicians and fans to be non-mainstream (Bennett, 2001).
