Abstract
To mark fifty years since legendary pop and rock performer Joni Mitchell released her iconic songwriting album 'Blue', Radio National's 'The Music Show' invited Kate Fagan to make an hour-long special edition of the program, with this description: "We've invited poet, songwriter and academic Kate Fagan to pull apart why this album is so special"”from the opening sounds of the dulcimer, to literary allusions, songs of lovers and loneliness and a complete control of the voice." The show took the form of an extended hour-long conversation between iconic Australian broadcaster and composer, Andrew Ford, who heads The Music Show and poet, songwriter and academic Kate Fagan. The program has been broadcast many times on repeat since its original airing on 20 June 2021, reaching a national and international audience of tens of thousands of listeners. It has been published as a podcast on the ABD Radio National site, where it is still available for repeated listening (https://abcmedia.akamaized.net/rn/podcast/2021/06/msw_20210620.mp3).
