Abstract

Letter to the editor. We read the update on Kawasaki disease by Yim et al.1 with interest because we had just reviewed 11 years of hospitalisations for that disease in the level 2 paediatric unit at Campbelltown in the South-West of Sydney. Forty-three children were hospitalised, of whom 15 were considered ‘incomplete’, and six children were excluded from analysis because their residence was outside the hospital’s catchment area. The incidence in Figure 1 was based on the census of residents aged 0–15 years in the catchment population (56 498 in the 2006 census and 55 770 in the 2011 census2). Since our study was completed, the incidence in 2013 was five new cases per 100 000 children aged 0–15.
