    Abstract

Previous research reveals significant benefits of knowledge management (KM) implementations in the construction industries. However, there is lack of information directly related to small and medium-sized firms. Accordingly, two case studies were undertaken from one medium-sized and one small-sized firm in the residential construction sector. The case studies revealed the increased recognition of KM. The medium-sized construction organisation use KM tools in a greater number of ways, whilst smaller firm could afford the comfort of utilising a smaller and a more sufficient variance of KM tools. Overall, the study offers useful implications for SME construction firms to promote knowledge management.
