Abstract

The number of commentaries (see Ref. 1) related to our Viewpoint (2) speaks to the clinical importance of the measurement of V˙O2 and cardiorespiratory fitness and highlights a collective wisdom and diversity of perspectives about this. Our science is stronger when we are open to the opinions of all and debate in a balanced and respectful way. This was displayed in several commentaries, including that by Rossiter and colleagues (see Ref. 1), who perhaps have contributed most to the development and testing of the new V˙O2max protocol.
