Learning to work together : a 'snapshot' from an urban sustainability partnership in Brazil

    Abstract

    ![CDATA[Collaborative strategic partnerships involving multiple stakeholders can be an effective approach to implement sustainable development initiatives as they bring together representatives from different sectors who can contribute to projects according to their specific knowledge and competencies (Jones, 2001:5). However, working together with different groups is not an easy task. Partnerships entail compromise, flexibility - and most importantly, mutual trust. This paper is a 'snapshot' of the preliminary findings of a recent pilot study that examines the challenges confronting a Brazilian partnership program entitled Centro de Vivencia Agroecologica (CEVAE) [Centre for Agroecological Living]. The stakeholders in this partnership are local government, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and local communities.]]
