Abstract
Writing groups have long been a part of the educational landscape. In some contexts writing groups are formal, perhaps even assemble, components of a course of study; elsewhere they are ad hoc, external or adjunct to institutionally prescribed teaching and learning (Gere, 1987). This chapter examines a relatively new phenomenon - writing groups for doctoral students that support their writing of the thesis and writing for publication.
