Abstract

What makes the study of Indigenous leisure unique, and thus of special interest to academic researchers, policy advisors and practitioners? In recent years, from both theoretical and praxis perspectives, the intangible and tangible manifestations of Indigenous leisure have and continue to garner academic interest (Fox 2006; Iwasaki et al. 2007). For instance, early academics sought to explore a range of theoretical dimensions of Indigenous cultures such as identity, empowerment and authenticity and their influences on leisure (Fox 2006).
