Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a global epidemic with an expected prevalence of 380 million in 2025 worldwide and over 2.5 million by 2010 in the UK. Diabetes is a progressive disease which leads to macro and microvascular complications and reduced life expectancy. Furthermore, diabetes-related complications have been shown to worsen patients' quality of life.
