    Abstract

An event of “stories, love and tales” is the theme for this year’s Surry Hills Festival and highlighting this will be the series of intimate projections that will be featured around the neighbourhood leading up to and on the day of the festival. Digging back into the history of the area, local creatives Esem Projects will provide a visual feast to the lives that have made this area what it is. The project will use images from a classic yet controversial ABC documentary from the 1960s called “Living on the Fringe” which filmed the people of Surry Hills and Redfern out on the street back when the area was poverty-stricken.
