    Abstract

The displacements experienced by the processes of migration are exacerbated by 'local' experiences of economic marginalisation and social exclusion. This unequal distribution of social dignity produces experiences of disrespect. It is this wider context in which these young Lebanese men fashion their gendered and ethnic identities, and move, as adolescents, towards specific strategies aimed at compensatory recuperations of social regard and then, as adults, towards socially validated forms of respect.
