Abstract
The provision and use of urban cultural infrastructure and the associated strategy of geographically clustering this infrastructure in designated precincts or districts, are important aspects of both cultural and urban, policy and planning. The aim of the Cultural Infrastructure strand of the Collaborative Museum ARC project was, with reference to an extensive review of the literature and a range of case studies drawn from around the world, examine what makes a cultural precinct ‘successful’ and to probe the role played by particular cultural institutions in that process.
