Abstract
Trade liberalization constituted the central thrust of policy in attempting to revitalize the Australian manufacturing sector after 1971, following a prolonged period of protection-induced economic stagnation. Specifically, this policy was envisaged as applying pressure to improve economic efficiency and hence sharpen export focus in order to provide a platform for stronger output and employment performance.
