Abstract

In this article, we discuss how media literacy experiences can be introduced into Australian primary schools to help children learn to successfully navigate their complex digital media lives. First, we provide background to media literacy, outline how it is relevant to the Australian Curriculum and discuss the particular challenges of the digital media environment. Then, we discuss what we know from research about children’s current school media literacy experiences. Finally, we provide some tips for implementing media literacy in Australian primary schools.
