Abstract
This text briefly reviews various impacts associated with sports mega-events, with focus on the tourism industry. It was possible to observe the processes of application and choice of the host cities to such events. The conclusion was that there is still a lot to discuss in terms of real long-run benefits not only for the tourism industry but also for other sectors of society.
