Abstract
The present work reports the discovery of the effect of metallic-type conduction for Nb-doped TiO 2 (0.65 at% Nb). This effect was attested by measurements of electrical conductivity at elevated temperatures (973-1223 K) in the gas phase of controlled oxygen activities. It is shown that the temperature coefficient of the mobility of electrons in reduced conditions is negative. This finding paves the way for the development of high-efficiency photoelectrodes for photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation from water using solar energy with substantially reduced internal energy losses for charge transport.
