Abstract
Michael Dear's principal research interests relate to Los Angeles, and his pursuit of a project of 'post-modern urbanism'. As founding Director of the Southern California Studies Centre at the University of Southern California, he is one of the most influential members of the 'LA School' of urban theory. While well known for his work on homelessness in Los Angeles, it has been his dogged insistence on the need for a new set of theoretical categories to account for capitalist urbanism in the LA region that has given his work some degree of renown, or notoriety.
