Abstract

Book review: Michael J. Agovino, The Soccer Diaries : an American’s Thirty-Year Pursuit of the International Game, University of Nebraska Press, Lincoln and London, 2014. There is no doubt that History is made up by stories. These stories can come in different shapes and sizes, so it does not matter whether the story is big or small – if it somehow can touch people’s hearts and minds, it will become part of a particular period, and it will show how human beings connected and lived with each other on those times. It was with this spirit that I first picked up Govino’s book: “Soccer diaries!”, I though, would be a tremendous topic to explore, to read, to laugh and mainly to think about how the author’s long “thirty-year pursuit of the international game” can connect not only to my particular experience with football, but also with people around the world who have different and meaningful stories to tell about the world game.
