Abstract
The gold mines of Vatukoula in northern Viti Levu, Fiji, are of a classical epithermal type hosted by propylitized alkali basalt of Pliocene age. The ore minerals are contained in crustified quartz veins with elongated vughs carrying pyrite, gold, gold and silver tellurides and accessory amounts of sulphides and sulphosalts. Some fine examples of crystallized metallic minerals have been recovered especially from the sole remaining workings – the Emperor mine.
