Mobile Stories: Street Life from Timor-Leste and Western Sydney

Research output: Creative WorksExhibition

Abstract

Mobile Stories: Street Life from Timor-Leste and Western Sydney is a curated selection of works from the photography galleries featured in the Mobile Stories interactive online documentary. Mobile Stories, the documentary, features a collection of multi-media profiles investigating the culture and future goals of students at Western Sydney University and their counterparts in the young developing nation of Timor-Leste. Mobile Stories is a collaborative project featuring the work of students from the Screen Media, Communication, Design and Music programs at Western Sydney University led by Dr Wendy Chandler. It explores the essence of two distinct and unique lived areas, the streets of Timor-Leste and Western Sydney. The work offers an insight into the society and living conditions of the two locations. It invites audiences to compare and contrast what makes each place unique, raising questions and speculation about the stories behind the people that live there. Mobile Stories explores the lives and culture of people not usually represented in mainstream media. In doing so the exhibition focuses on the themes of identity, place and society. Mobile Stories aims to celebrate both difference and a common humanity. Photos can be seen here: https://www.hca.westernsydney.edu.au/sites/rcs2022/wendy.html
