Abstract
Published in Museum of Economic Botany at the Adelaide Botanic Garden: A Souvenir. In 1867 the Museum of Economic Botany acquired samples of reeled and floss silk, produced by Mr G Francis at Gawler from 600 silkworms fed on one small mulberry tree. Those specimens are yellowed now, in their old glass-lidded box. No golden fleece here, but an achievement nonetheless - the proud beginnings, in a long tradition, of what might have been.
