Abstract

![CDATA[Multiple oppositions is a contrastive phonological intervention approach for treating moderate-to-severe phonological impairment in children. The approach was developed for children who have extensive homonymy due to the deletion of multiple target phonemes or sound substitution preferences or error patterns that result in collapses of contrast, in which multiple adult phonemes are produced as a single sound. Multiple oppositions is a variation of the minimal pair contrastive approach, in that multiple sounds from across a child’s phoneme collapse are targeted simultaneously in intervention. A growing evidence base has shown that it is an effective intervention for efficiently facilitating system-wide change for children with phonological impairment. Recent research has explored the optimal intervention intensity for the approach, the effects of service delivery modifications on children’s responses to intervention, and the use of multiple oppositions in languages other than English.]]
