    Abstract

A scheme has been implemented and used over a two year period to address the problem of several referees marking projects undertaken by students. Each marker is free to mark as few or as many of the students as they wish. The problem for obtaining an overall mark for the student is the variability in each marker's approach. Accordingly a system to compare each marker's approach with that of his peers and to adjust student marks on the basis of an assessment of "hard" or "soft" marking has been successfully trialled. The results of the study are presented and discussed.
