Abstract

Mycobacterium genavense is difficult to diagnose given its infrequency, fastidious and slow-growing nature, and variable clinical manifestations. We report an unusual case of M. genavense duodenitis in a new diagnosis f acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) presenting primarily as iron deficiency anaemia, which highlights the importance of biopsy and a high index of suspicion even in the presence of concurrent pathology.
