Abstract
This work documents the life of Natercia Martins. Martins was born in 1980 during the brutal occupation of Timor-Leste by Indonesia. An independence activist, Martins bravely worked for the United Nations during the independence referendum of 1999. Martins was witness to many atrocities during this time. This experience motivated Martins to join the police force post-independence. Today Martins is a police commander in the District of Liquica and an active campaigner for women’s rights.
