Abstract
De Montfort University (DMU) was commissioned by the National Mental Health Development Unit (NMHDU) in December 2010 to undertake an evaluation of the Community Development Workers nationally. DMU has a long‐standing commitment to teaching, learning, research and development in the two interlocking areas of this programme: community development and mental health service provision. The evaluation employed a multi‐modal approach to data collection, verification and analysis that enabled investigation of both breadth and depth. Two main stages of data collection informed the evaluation and these are discussed below.
