    Abstract

![CDATA[There is a substantial body of IMP work that considers the formation, evolution and impact of business networks on the participant firms, industry configurations and business practice. At the heart of this work is the individual – the individual relationship in the network, the individual interaction in the relationship, the individual person in the individual relationship and the individual transaction. While the impact of an individual is not always discernible, individuals coalesce in bottom-up, self-organising ways to build systems of people, relationships, interactions and transactions that can have considerable impact (Wilkinson and Young 2005).]]
