Abstract

This year’s conference was also a solid reminder of how basic science is still critical to all levels of society. In a global political climate that is increasingly sceptical as to the place of basic science in everyday life, we had example after example of how fine-scale and macro-scale characterization of fungal genomics are leading new advances in health care and in improving the sustainability of our lifestyle. The various presenters at the 29th Fungal Genetics Conference have done their job in transmitting this information to us, now it is up to us to take this message to society at large.
