Abstract

This chapter explores the historical trajectory that non-state actors have travelled in relation to their contribution to social protection service delivery in Ghana in particular. The key research question is what key roles have NSAs played in social protection delivery in Ghana and what changing perspectives have occurred in their services delivery overtime? The data has been taken mainly from desk review of public administrative data, published materials as well as research reports, as well as primary data collection and analysis using both quantitative and qualitative tools. The primary data base from which this chapter is derived was collected in the first quarter of 2013 in five districts of Wassa area of Western region of Ghana and was done in two phases. The first phase was a mapping of NSAs operating in the study area and the second was an in-depth study of selected NSAs.
