Abstract
Norman is a short film created by Dr Madison Shakespeare, a Gadigal Saltwater woman, scholar artist, in collaboration with Gadigal videographer Mr Luke Shakespeare. Produced in a culturally consistent and appropriate manner, the film reflects on Dr Shakespeare’s memories of her grandfather and her lived experiences as a child, highlighting the deep connection to Country that shaped her early life. As a non-traditional research output, Norman demonstrates the value of situating creative projects within a relational worldview, where Indigenous epistemologies guide both process and content. Through storytelling, visual imagery, and sensory engagement, the film conveys knowledge and lived experience in ways that extend cultural insight and scholarly understanding beyond conventional academic formats. By centering these unique worldview perspectives and intergenerational relationships, it offers an intimate exploration of identity, memory, and connection, while challenging Western knowledge practices and providing a model for culturally grounded, Community-informed research outputs.
