NSW Healthy Children Initiative: Social Marketing to Young People: Deliverable: Recommendations Report for Phase 2 and Phase 3

Abstract

In November 2008, the NSW Premier agreed to NSW's participation in the National Partnership Agreement on Preventive Health (NPAPAH). The NPAPH aims to address the increasing prevalence of lifestyle related chronic disease by: *Laying the foundations for healthy behaviours in the daily lives of Australians through social marketing efforts and the national roll-out of programs supporting healthy lifestyles; and *Supporting these programs and the subsequent evolution of policy with the enabling infrastructure for evidence-based policy design and coordinated implementation. Through the NPAPH, the NSW government is responsible for: *Delivering programs to children and young people through settings such as preschools, schools and childcare centres (through the Healthy Children Initiative); *Delivering programs to adults in paid employment, in and through workplaces to encourage healthy lifestyles (through the Healthy Worker Initiative); *Managing the delivery of local social marketing activities to support national level activities for healthy living, and providing service to complement and support national level tobacco campaigns (through the Social Marketing Initiative); and *Supporting the expansion of local level surveillance capacity. Under the Agreement, NSW will receive from the Commonwealth Government facilitation funds totalling $108.65 million over six years from 2009/10 until 2014/15. Should NSW achieve the performance benchmarks for children and adults outlined in the NPAPH, the government will receive up to a further $100 million in reward payments; $53.4 million of this reward funding is tied to the Healthy Children Initiative.
