Abstract

The interactions between circular/elliptic/line inhomogeneities embedded in a matrix can be easily studied by using special finite elements each containing a central inhomogeneity. In this paper, a series of special finite elements, which contain a circular, elliptic or line inhomogeneity, are developed based on the hybrid displacement, complex potential and conformal mapping techniques. These hybrid-type elements can be used together with the conventional finite elements without any modifications. Numerical examples are employed to illustrate the potential accuracy and reliability of the proposed elements.
