Abstract
This article is part of the project of developing the ethical sensibility of hermeneneutic theory. This project is concerned with investigating the ways in which a variety of practices, when understood as hermeneutic acts, can be understood to be formative of an ethical sense. In this case, the two practices of reading and of gardening - practices which Plato explicitly links in his "Phaedrus" - are discussed. Special reference is made to Plato and to Gadamer.
