Abstract

This study is a mixed-design study on vulnerable elderly people living in Sydney, Australia. The study was designed to evaluate the relationship between volunteer support, loneliness and social support, and anxiety, depression, trust, hoarding, attachment, and cognitive decline. As well as questionnaires and interviews, three focus groups were conducted: one with the vulnerable elderly; the second with the volunteers who provided support to the elderly, whilst the third and final group comprised the service providers at Catholic Community Services.
