Abstract

Written for students, teachers, caregivers and parents, this illustrated book provides a theoretical examination of critical issues related to the acquisition of one or more languages in early childhood education. Explains how early language and literacy develops and provides guidelines to develop children's skills in all their languages. Each chapter includes an overview, summary and reader activities. Also examines Australian government policy statements on language and literacy. Includes a bibliography, glossary and index. The authors are university lecturers in early childhood education.
